For too many families and individuals, the resettlement process is difficult and slow, leaving them in mortal danger. The Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) provides legal representation to Iraqi refugees in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.
IRAP is a student-driven organization that matches law students with pro bono supervising attorneys to take on individual cases. Together they help refugee applicants successfully navigate the rules and processes for resettlement in a safe third country.
Based on experience with hundreds of cases, IRAP provides resources for lawyers, law students and other legal advocates working directly on individual resettlement cases. There are reports, training materials and legal research that may assist you in your legal representation of Iraqi refugees. Many of the reports and government documents included speak specifically to issues that have frequently arisen in IRAP’s legal casework. Others are provided for general background information about the Iraqi refugee crisis.
If you are a law student or attorney interested in becoming involved with IRAP, please email info@refugeerights.org.
If you are currently working on a case, and have a question that is not answered by the materials in this section, please check with your chapter’s student directors. We will continue to update this section as new documents are released, and new research is completed. If you have a suggestion for a legal memo that would be useful to include here, please email Bheller@refugeerights.org.
