New York University School of Law

IRAP NYU, which consists of 30 plus students, has three areas of focus: international legal assistance, domestic assistance, and policy/litigation. Our international legal assistance work has focused largely on appealing denials of resettlement applications, although we have also taken cases involving humanitarian parole, SIVs and initial interviews. In terms of domestic assistance, IRAP NYU has worked with locally resettled Iraqis to facilitate their access to government and private resources, and to support them as they reconstruct their lives here in the U.S. We have also been involved in examining broader policy issues surrounding the Iraq war and the Iraqi refugee crisis. As well as litigation relating to transparency in refugee processing, IRAP NYU’s work in this area has focused on human trafficking and coercive labor practices in relation to the employment of third country nationals on US military bases in Iraq.
