The Afghan Allies Protection Extension Act was introduced in the House yesterday, after months of hard work. If passed, the Act will extend the current SIV program – which was set to expire at the end of this fiscal year – through the end of 2016.
The Act was sponsored by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, of Oregon’s 3rd District. Thanks to him, along with other Congressmen who have fought for an extension of the Afghan SIV program, thousands of Afghans who served the United States as interpreters and guides, or in other capacities, will be given visas to leave the persecution they face at home and come to the United States. IRAP is thrilled by this development, and hopes to see the Act pass in the near future.
