As an ILI Caseworker, Seema Kakar screens and responds to assistance requests from displaced individuals seeking relief through the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program for Afghans and UNHCR resettlement processes. With supervision from appropriately accredited IRAP staff, Kakar also provides legal counseling and information to refugees and SIV applicants.
Prior to joining IRAP, Kakar helped refugees from Afghanistan and Pakistan with resettlement and Pashto, Dari, and Urdu translation at the International Institute of Saint Louis. She also assisted in campaigns regarding the COVID-19 vaccines.
Seema Kakar holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Marketing from Saint Louis University. She speaks Pashto, Dari, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi and has worked as a translator between English, Pashto, Dari, and Urdu.
