A Light in the Darkness: Omar’s Story with IRAP

Because of people like you, families like Omar’s discover that compassion can cast out fear, and that there is still good in this world.

Read more about the impact your support has on refugee families in Omar’s own words:

In Lebanon, my family and I lived through a real nightmare. Our life was an endless chain of tragedy, in tents and warehouses, under constant threats from gangs. I endured harsh experiences, including eviction and imprisonment. In those dark days, when hope was slowly fading away, only God knew the extent of our suffering.

Then came the moment that changed everything. The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) reached out to me, and their compassionate voice felt like a lifeline. I still remember that first call and how their reassurance made me feel safe, as if someone finally cared about me. I never imagined there could be people with such humanity and generosity.

From that moment on, IRAP’s lawyers stood by me and my family every step of the way. They were not just lawyers or staff members; they were people who truly listened with their hearts, never once turning down a request. They supported us in every possible way: financial assistance for rent and daily needs for my children, and priceless emotional support all while we were still in Lebanon. They were our anchor through every detail of our lives.

But they went beyond that. They became the hope that guided my family and me on our journey out of Lebanon. They helped us with travel procedures, international resettlement, and navigating the United Nations and all the bureaucratic complexities. Thanks to them, and to God first, and then to them, my family and I arrived safely in Ireland and started a new life. After reaching Ireland, we were able to overcome our hardships and settle down here. Everything I live today, the stability and peace, I owe to IRAP. My wife, children, and I extend our deepest gratitude to this wonderful organization.

I encourage anyone facing great difficulties and feeling hopeless to reach out to IRAP. They are not just an organization, they are extraordinary people, full of compassion and generosity. I also call on governments and institutions around the world to value and support IRAP, because they are doing noble humanitarian work that transforms the lives of hundreds, even thousands of people, just as they transformed ours. Finally, we express our heartfelt thanks to lawyer Alexandra and Yara, and we send you our warmest regards for your kindness toward us ❤️.

Thank you for standing with IRAP, for choosing hope, and for being part of the light that helps families find safety and peace.
