A year after the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, IRAP filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suit seeking records from the State Department about processing of Afghan refugee, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), and humanitarian parole applications.
Impact
In the aftermath of the United States’ military withdrawal from Afghanistan and the subsequent Taliban takeover, pathways to safety for Afghans, like the U.S. refugee admissions program, the SIV program, and humanitarian parole, are as important as they have ever been. The policies and data records requested through this lawsuit will assist IRAP and other advocates with understanding recent changes to processing in these humanitarian pathways.
Case status
