The piece discusses the current violence and takes the perspective of Iraqis already in the United States, who are worried for the family they left behind. More than 1 million Iraqis have already been displaced over the past few weeks, with more expected to flee in the future.
The NBC article is accompanied by a video that tells the story of the large Iraqi population in El Cajon, California, a suburb of San Diego often called “Little Baghdad.”
