Trapped in Iraq

George Packer’s comment in this week’s New Yorker, entitled “Trapped in Iraq” discusses the tens of thousands of U.S.-affiliated Iraqis who are both waiting to get an interview after applying for refugee status, or stuck in administrative processing and waiting for a decision on their case. With the advance of ISIL, the danger to them has “exponentially increased.” In the article, IRAP Director and Co-founder Becca Heller discusses the bureaucratic delays and IRAP’s efforts to improve processing. This week, IRAP and the international law firm Freshfields will be filing a lawsuit in federal court on behalf of our client who was featured in the New Yorker article, asking the judge to compel government action on his case on the grounds of “unreasonable delay.”
