Hussein Elbakri
Hussein Elbakri is a Senior Litigation Attorney in IRAP’s U.S. Litigation Department. In this role, he works on impact litigation in U.S. courts to advance and defend the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and other people in need of humanitarian relocation. Hussein and his parents came to the United States as refugees from Sudan.
Prior to joining IRAP, Hussein was a senior associate at Cravath, Freshfields, and WilmerHale, where he litigated securities, commercial, and antitrust disputes, conducted internal investigations, and defended clients in international enforcement matters. He also maintained an active pro-bono practice, including civil rights impact litigation and counseling public interest organizations about potential legal challenges to government actions.
Hussein is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Veterans Law & Disability Benefits Clinic, and Columbia University. Hussein is bilingual in Arabic and English. He is a member of the New York state bar and admitted to practice in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of Columbia, the Second and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court.
