“DANGEROUS ATTEMPT TO INTIMIDATE AND SILENCE ATTORNEYS:” IRAP DENOUNCES WHITE HOUSE MEMO
(New York, NY) — In response to the White House memorandum released this weekend, “Preventing Abuses of the Legal System and the Federal Courts,” Laurie Ball Cooper, Vice President of U.S. Legal Programs at the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), issued the following statement:
“This dangerous attempt to intimidate and silence attorneys is part of the Trump administration’s broad and far-reaching attack on civil rights and the rule of law. We will not remain silent as our clients, values, and profession are under assault. Instead, we will continue to carry out our mission with professionalism and integrity and in compliance with our legal and ethical obligations. We remain steadfast in our work with forcibly displaced people seeking a safe place to live and a safe way to get there.”
The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) is a global legal aid and advocacy organization working to create a world where refugees and all people seeking safety are empowered to claim their right to freedom of movement and a path to lasting refuge. Everyone should have a safe place to live and a safe way to get there.
